There are two basic ways that people can breathe
1) by expanding the intercostal muscles i.e. the
rib cage
2) by lowering the diaphragm below the lungs.
Method 1
is the most popular.
Unfortunately when breathing by expanding the rib
cage, only the top 2/3 rds of the lungs fill with air. The bottom
third becomes full of stagnant air like the bilge's in a ship.
When needing to increase air intake the person can feel like suffocating
(panic attacks) because they can't take in enough air.
Problems with this way of breathing are that the organs in and
around the abdominal cavity do not get massaged. Leading to a
lack of lubrication in the fascias, congestion in the abdominal
lymphatic system, reproductive system as well as possible problems
with the Large, Small Intestines and surrounding organs.
On the plus side breathing by method 1 is a very
good way of suppressing and stopping ourselves from being overwhelmed
by feelings we may find difficult to process.
